Collin Sawyer '20- Men's Basketball - Jan. 23

WALTHAM, Mass. – Men’s basketball junior Collin Sawyer of New London, Connecticut, has been named the January 23rd Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.

Sawyer averaged 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in the Judges’ 1-1 week last week. In a 72-71 overtime win against the University of Chicago, Sawyer finished with 13 points, including five in overtime. That included the game-winning 3-pointer with 10.1 seconds left on the clock and the Judges trailing by two points. The game-winning basket was Sawyer’s second of his career on the final possession, as he hit a buzzer-beater to defeat Bates College on December 31, 2017. Sawyer came back with 10 points to lead the Judges in a 53-50 loss to Washington University on Sunday afternoon. Brandeis held the Bears to a season-low scoring total despite the loss.

Overall this season, Sawyer is averaging 10.3 points per game, third-most on the team. He leads the squad in 3-point shooting percentage, hitting 26-of-63 for 41.3% - fifth-best in the University Athletic Association.

In head coach Jean Bain’s first season at the helm, the Judges have a 10-6 overall record this season, 3-2 in the UAA. It marks the first 10-win season for Brandeis men’s basketball since 2013-14 and matches their conference win total from last season with nine more contests to play. The Judges are back in action this weekend with a UAA road trip to Emory on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon at 12 noon.
