Corey Sherman '19 - Men's Basketball - Dec. 5

WALTHAM, Mass. – Men’s Basketball senior Corey Sherman of Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, has been named the December 2nd Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.

Sherman helped guide the Judges to their first New England Big Four Classic championship since 2012. Sherman averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in winning efforts versus Salem State (77-69) and against host Babson (74-49). These highlight-worthy stats were supported by 67 percent field goal percentage, 50 percent from 3-point range, and 93 percent at the line over the two contests, earning Sherman tournament MVP honors.

Sherman’s efforts in the two games, having 24 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists versus Salem State, and 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists versus Babson, has helped push the judges to a 5-1 start on the season in coach Jean Bain’s first season as head coach. This 5-1 start is Brandeis’ best start to the season the 2013-14 season. Sherman currently leads the team in scoring while also ranking fifth in the UAA with 17.0 points per game. He is also second in the league in minutes per game with 33.7, fifth in free-throw percentage at 84.8 percent, and tied for fifth in assists per game with 3.2. Brandeis is set to take on Becker College at Becker on Thursday, December 6th as they look to improve to 6-1 for the first time since 2012-13.

This is the fourth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
