TJ Carleo '26 - Men's Outdoor Track and Field

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Brandeis men’s outdoor track and field first-year runner TJ Carleo of Newburyport, Massachusetts, has been named the April 25 Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.

TEXT: Brandeis Athlete of the Week, Presented by Jake N Joes and The Chateau: TJ Carleo, Track and Field, First-Year, Newburyport, Mass.IMAGE: TJ Carleo receiving his gold medal for winning the 800-meter run Carleo, who was honored for the second time in three weeks, had the team’s top performance at the 2023 University Athletic Association championships at the University of Chicago, winning the UAA title in the 800-meter run. Following a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s preliminaries, Carleo climbed the ranks and won the 800-meter dash final. He set a personal record in the process, with a time of 1:51.98. Carleo now has the top three performances in the 800 for Brandeis this season, and this holds the second-fastest time in the UAA this season.

Carleo is now ranked 20th in Division III in the event, putting him right on the cusp of NCAA Championship qualification. He is Brandeis's first UAA 800-meter champion outdoors since Chris Brown '12 in 2012.

In addition to the 800-meters, Carleo ran the lead leg of Brandeis’s 4x400 relay team. Along with junior Samuel Kim, senior Dion Morris-Evans, and sophomore Ori Slotky the team placed seventh, with a time of 3:30.53.

Carleo and the Judges will compete at the UMass Amherst Championship Tune-up this weekend.

This is the seventh year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
