Keren Khromchenko '19 - Women's Tennis - April 10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Women’s tennis senior Keren Khromchenko of Manalapan, New Jersey, has been named the April 10th Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.

Khromchenko was honored as the UAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. She was undefeated for the 18th-ranked Judges at #2 doubles and #3 singles as the team went 3-0, including wins over two higher-ranked opponents. In doubles action, she teamed with junior Diana Dehterevich of Minsk, Belarus, for an 8-7 (8-6) win over Wellesley; 8-4 over NYU; and 8-5 over Skidmore. In singles, she outlasted Selina Peng of Wellesley, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5; Rupa Ganesh of NYU, 6-1, 6-1; and Renee Karchere-Sun of Skidmore, 6-7, 6-4, 10-8.

The Judges won the first match over Wellesley, 9-0, last Friday, then defeated 15th-ranked NYU, 6-3, on Saturday, and 13th-ranked Skidmore by the same score on Sunday. With the wins, the Judges improved to 9-4 on the season.

For her career, Khromchenko was a second-team All-UAA selection at #3 singles as a sophomore. She is a three-time Academic All-Association team member who was recently selected Phi Beta Kappa.

The Judges finish their regular season this week with matches at Tufts on Thursday, Bowdoin on Saturday and at home against Stonehill on Sunday.

This is the fourth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
