Softball

Brianna Urena is a four-year member of the softball team, playing primarily at second base. She was hitting a career-high .286 with two RBI in the five games of 2020 before the season was suspended. As a rookie in 2017, she had career-bests with nine RBI and 12 runs scored, while hitting four doubles as a first-year and as a junior. She’s also spent three years as an employee in the athletic department, serving as a building manager since her sophomore year. Bri has volunteered at Boston Children’ Hospital and worked at a kidney dialysis company in Rhode Island when not involved in the Gosman Center.

“Bri's been solid for us at second base over her four years,” said interim head coach Emily Kraytenberg. “Her teammates have benefited greatly from her infectious attitude and effort. She has the ability to elevate those around her and her leadership by example will be missed next year.

GET TO KNOW BRIANNA

Majors: Biology major with a chemistry minor

Favorite athletic moment at Brandeis: spending my final softball moments with incredible coaches that provided us with the proper skills and support to flourish.

Favorite Class at Brandeis: Developmental Biology with Dr. Suzanne Paradis because she is a brilliant professor who was excellent at teaching the subject, but also cared about providing us with important skills for the future. She also has a very cute dog!

Favorite place on campus outside of Gosman: Without a doubt, Einstein's. The staff sees me so often that they always have my coffee ready for me before I even order.

Outside of my sport, my favorite thing to do at Brandeis was: To study. I particularly enjoy learning new concepts and skills, especially ones that I can whip out when watching Jeopardy! with my family.

Something unexpected I learned at Brandeis: how to manage life. It was difficult even up to the final day for me to balance life as a student-athlete, an employee of the coolest boss ever, Tom Rand, and a volunteer. However, I was fortunate enough to have come across many amazing friends and staff at Brandeis who helped me along the way, and I am ever so grateful for it.

After I graduate, I plan to: Learn how to cope with all of the excess time I now have!

Dream Job: A doctor, maybe a dermatologist.

Favorite Book: Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Dream Jeopardy! Categories: the ones where they give you letters that have to be included in the answer! I enjoy word play categories.

Favorite Meal: Definitely big breakfast meals - eggs are a must.

Favorite Emoji: Doughnut emoji
