WALTHAM, Mass. – Five Brandeis University student-athletes have been recognized by the University Athletic Association (UAA) for their performances during the week of February 17th through 23rd. This week's honorees are:

Sophomore pitcher Sydney Goldman of Sherman Oaks, California, was named Softball Pitcher of the Week. Goldman tossed a pair of complete-game wins against Occidental and Whittier as part of a 2-1 week, with the Judges going 3-3 overall. She struck out eight and walked five in the Judges' season opener, allowing five hits and three earned runs in seven innings. She then gave up seven hits with four Ks in a win over Whitter, also allowing three earned runs. Goldman came in in relief in both ends of a doubleheader against the University of Redlands, taking a loss in an 8-7 defeat, giving up six hits and three earned runs with four Ks, then retired all four hitters she faced in a 6-0 loss.

Junior catcher Luke Hall of Georgetown, Massachusetts, was named the Baseball Hitter of the Week. Hall hit .500 with a .522 OBP and 1.000 slugging percentage during the Judges' 5-0 week. He hit safely in all five contests, including a 4-5 performance in the opener against Elmira, then hit home runs in back-to-back contests against Bates and the second contest against Elmira. Hall also scored a run in all five contests, leading the team with 12 runs scored and 11 hits. He is second on the squad with nine RBI. The Judges are off to their best start since 2002, and they scored 10 or more runs in five games in a row for the first time in program history.

Sophomore sabre fencer Lucas Lin of Plano, Texas, was named Men's Fencer of the Week. Lin was the top performer for the Brandeis men at the 2020 North Eastern Intercollegiate Fencing Conference championships, taking bronze in men's sabre. He went 10-1 in team competition to qualify for the individuals. Lin was then 4-1 in pool play to earn the #2 seed in the direct elimination. He won his first bout, 15-7, but was upset by the eventual champion, 15-11, in the semifinals. The men's sabre squad was second in the overall squad standings, also the best performance by a Brandeis squad.

Senior foilist Jessica Gets of Morganville, New Jersey, and rookie sabre fencer Maggie Shealy of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, shared Women's Fencer of the Week honors. Gets and Shealy each earned bronze medals at the 2020 NEIFC Championships at Vassar. Each went 10-2 in the team competition, with the sabre squad finishing third and the foil squad fourth, to reach the individual competition. Both went 3-2 in pool play to advance to the direct elimination and then upset a higher seed in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals to place third overall.
