Ten Brandeis teams earn All-Academic Accolades

Brandeis Judges Team Academic Honors, Logos from six different coaches associations

WALTHAM, Mass. -- July means team academic award season, and once again, several Brandeis University squads have been recognized by their respective coaching organizations for their performances in the classroom. The following 10 Judges teams have been honored for their academic excellence during the challenging 2020-21 academic year. 

 

  • Men's and Women's Tennis were recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic teams for posting team GPAs of greater than 3.20 during the academic year. In addition, eight men and 11 women earned Scholar-Athlete status for posting individual GPAs higher than 3.50. The Judges are coached by Pauri Pandian. This marks the sixth time in seven years both Brandeis teams have been honored by the ITA.

  • Volleyball was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a U.S. Marine Corps/AVCA Team Academic Award with a cumulative GPA greater than 3.30 for the fifth consecutive year and eighth overall. Brandeis is led by head coach Alesia Bennett. 

  • For the first time, the United States Fencing Coaches Association presented All-Academic team awards. The Brandeis women were honored for posting a team GPA greater than 3.30, while 13 men and 10 women earned individual All-Academic honors with individual GPAs greater than 3.30. Of those 23 individuals, 10 were named Scholars of Distinction by posting GPAs greater than 3.70. Jennie Salmon is the Judges' head coach. 

  • The Brandeis Swimming and Diving teams continued their great runs of success being honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America. Both Brandeis men and women were honored as Scholar All-America Teams for posting GPAs above 3.30 for the previous semester, while Sam Dienstag '24 was honored as a CSCAA Scholar All-American. Brandeis swimming and diving is coached by Nicole Carter. This is the 57th time in the last 58 semesters that the women were honored and the 14th in the past 16 for the men.

  • Both Brandeis track and field teams were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic squads with GPAs above 3.10. Graduate student Jack Allan '20/MS '22 was honored with individual All-Academic honors after finishing above a 3.30 and ranking among the top 50 nationally in an event, the long jump. Brandeis track and field is led by Sinead Delahunty Evans. This was the fifth straight year of honors for both men's and women's track and field. 

  • Brandeis baseball was honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association for the first time as a recipient of their Team Academic Excellence Award after posting a GPA better than 3.00 for the 2020-21 academic year. The Judges are led by head coach Derek Carlson '91.
