WALTHAM, Mass.- For the second time this season, three Brandeis University student-athletes have been recognized by the University Athletic Association (UAA) as Athlete of the Week. Honored for the week ending Oct. 11 were golfer Scott Beaulac of Longmeadow, Mass., men's tennis player Steven Milo of Woodbury, N.Y., and men's cross country runner Paul Norton of Amherst, Mass.

Beaulac, a sophomore, is in his first season on the Brandeis golf team. Facing windy conditions, he finished in a career-best fifth place out of 60 golfers at the Nichols College Bison Fall Invitational in Dudley, Mass. Beaulac shot a season-low five-over-par 77, tying him for the sixth-best Brandeis round of the season. As a team, Brandeis tied for fifth place with a score of 327, only two strokes out of their third top-three placement of the season.

Milo, a rookie, earned his honor at the 2009 James Wallach Invitational at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Milo won the 'C' singles flight at the tournament, including a pair of third-set super-tiebreakers. Milo defeated Greg Katz from Vassar College, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round and took his first super tie-breaker against an Skidmore College's Alex Fromson, 6-3, 3-6, (10-7), in the second. He won the semifinals easily against Azam Khan from Trinity College, 6-1, 6-2, and closed out his win by rallying from a set down to defeat, Ethan Bond, another Skidmore Thoroughbred, 4-6, 7-5, (10-8). Milo also advanced to the second round of the 'B' doubles flight.

Norton, a junior co-captain, was recognized for the second time this season for his cross-country prowess. He had one of the Judges' top performances in recent memory at the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston. He finished sixth overall out of 320 runners from Division I, II and III, and second among Division III runners, the team's best individual performance since at least 1995 according to the NEICAAAA web site. As a team, Brandeis finished in 11th place overall and third among DIII squads, their best showing since taking 11th place in 1998.

Norton completed the 8K race in 24:46, putting him 24 seconds off the winning pace, but just five seconds out of the top 3. Norton, who missed Open New Englands last year, finished in 116th place in his first try at the meet in 2007, giving him an improvement of 110 places in two years.

Beaulac is a 2008 graduate of Longmeadow High School.

Milo is a 2009 graduate of Syosset High School.

Norton is a 2007 graduate of Amherst Regional High School.
