Brenner wins against Gordon and Trinity, named to d3baseball.com Team of Week

After a rough 2012, the Brandeis baseball team had a strong finish to the 2013 campaign, riding the back of Kyle Brenner ’15 to win five of their last six contests. Brenner, who earned back-to-back UAA Pitcher of the Week honors, earned a pair of wins during the team’s season-high five-game winning streak.

On April 25, he retired nine of 11 batters with five strikeouts in a relief win over Gordon College. Three days later on April 28, he tossed a masterpiece in the opener of a doubleheader against Trinity College, striking out a career-high nine in seven innings of work. He allowed just four base-runners on two hits and two walks as the Judges defeated the Bantams, 2-0, to snap a 10-game losing streak in the series. In all during the week, Brenner struck out 14 in 10 innings of work, allowing just four hits and two walks. If that weren’t enough, Brenner also led the team at the plate with a .375 batting average and four RBI, including driving in both runs in a 2-1 win over Salve Regina, one of the top teams in New England. Brenner earned national honors for his performance, getting named to the d3baseball.com Team of the Week. For the season, he was a second-team All-UAA selection, along with teammate Liam O’Connor ’16, who shared UAA Rookie of the Year honors.
