Swimming and diving comes back against Wheaton, Fabian breaks school record in opening meet

For the first time in two seasons, Brandeis Athletics sponsored varsity swimming and diving, and for the first time since 2008, the Judges swam at home in the newly-renovated Linsey Pool. Though the Judges lost their opener on Oct. 20 to Wheaton College, it was a successful meet according to head coach Mike Kotch, whose men and women won 15 events combined. The breakout star of the meet for the Judges was Max Fabian ’15 in the distance freestyle events. A participant in a USSwimming Open Water camp the previous summer, Fabian wasted no time in establishing a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, knocking a full seven seconds off the previous mark established in 2006 with his time of  9:58.06. It was one of three wins on the day for Fabian, who would go on to set the school record in the 1,650 as well, just missing All-UAA honors and selection to the NCAA championships. The Brandeis men would pick up their first win for “BUSDT 2.0” on Jan. 11 against Bridgewater State at Boston College.
