Four named to UAA Presidents Council Scholar Athlete team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three Brandeis University rising senior student-athletes and one recent graduate have been named to the 2015 University Athletic Association Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team. To achieve this recognition, a student-athlete must earn first team All-Association honors and must carry a 3.50 or greater cumulative grade point average during that playing season.

The Judges’ representatives are Noah Berman ’15 of Palo Alto, Calif., a foil fencer on the men’s fencing team; Jake Picard ’16 of Suffield, Conn., a midfielder on the men’s soccer team; Mathilde Robinson ’16 of Miami, Fla., a midfielder for women’s soccer; and Kelsey Whitaker ’16 of Kingston, Mass., a cross country and track and field specialist.

Berman, who tied for the Judges’ top finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional championships – in lieu of an All-UAA honor - was an NCAA Championship qualifier as a junior. He graduated with a 3.53 GPA and a degree in sociology and minors in business and French and Franocophone studies.

Picard helped the Brandeis men’s soccer team to a 19-3-1 record as they reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III tournament and garnered a top-eight national ranking. He carries a 3.73 GPA as a Health: Science, Society and Policy and psychology double major.

Robinson played a defensive midfield position and helped Brandeis reach the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years. She is a double major in business and psychology with 3.59 GPA.

Whitaker was a three-time NCAA Division III championship qualifier as a junior, running at cross country nationals, then competing in the mile indoors and the 1,500-meter run outdoors. The UAA Champion in the 1,500, she owns a 3.50 GPA as a biology and Health: Science, Society and Policy double major.
