BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Brandeis University senior Lee Bloom (W. Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chafee) shot a round of two-under-par 70, the low round of the tournament, helping the Judges to finish in third place out of nine teams at the Bowdoin College Invitational.

This marked the second year in a row that Bloom shot a round of 70 at the Brunswick Golf Club and was his third overall collegiate round under par. After winning medalist honors in 2008, Bloom finished in second place this year, firing 79-70-149 (+5) for the tournament to finish three shots behind Husson College's Kevin Byrne.

Overall, the Judges shot 297 on the second day of action, improving by 27 strokes from day one and passing host Bowdoin in the standings. Brandeis shot 324-297-621, finishing behind only regional power Husson and Division II St. Anselm in the standings. The 297 score on day two was two strokes better than the Eagles' 299 mark.

Also contributing to the Judges' improvement was senior Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz), who finished in a tie for ninth place overall. Sacks improved by five strokes, shooting 79-74-153 (+9). Sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) showed the squad's most dramatic improvement on the second day, lowering his score by 11 strokes (86-75-161, +19), to finish tied for 22nd. Sophomore Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) went up on day two (80-83-163, +21) to finish in a tie for 26th, while junior Dan Goldsmith (Herlizya Pituach, Israel/WBAIS) had the team's final scoring round on day two with a mark of 86-78-164 (+22), finishing in 28th place.
