BREWSTER, Mass. -- Sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) set school records for low round and best finish today at the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championships. Cusato fired an even-par 72 in the second round. Coupled with his five-over 77 in the first round, Cusato placed 18th overall and fifth among Division III competitors As a team, Brandeis finished 17th overall with a two-day score of 636, sixth among DIII schools, besting their 2008 performance, when they were 22nd overall and seven in DIII.

Cusato's second-round 72 was the second lowest posted by any Division III golfer and one of just 12 rounds of par or better in today's action. His overall score of 149 and 18th-place finish better his own marks at the NEIGA championships by six strokes and seven places.

Brandeis's second scorer was sophomore Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), who tied for 79th by shooting 78-82-160 (+16). Junior Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz) was just two strokes behind, firing 82-80-162 (+18), tying him for 92nd. Senior Lee Bloom (West Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) was the squad's final scorer on both days with 83-82-165 (+21), tying for 111th place. Senior Daniel Goldsmith (Herlizya Pituach, Israel/WBAIS) was the team's final player, shooting 87-92-179 (+35).

Overall, the Judges, who scored 319-317-636, improved by five spots overall compared to 2008, while their score of 636 was 14 strokes better than last year's previous school record. The team's consistency was much improved from last year, when they shot a 309 on the second day of action - after a 341 on day one - for the school's single best round at the NEIGAs.
