Brenner claims back-to-back UAA Pitcher of the Week honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore Kyle Brenner of Brookfield, Mass., was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the weeks ending April 21st and April 28th.

In the week ending on April 21st, Brenner was superb on the mound and at the plate. He compiled a 1.93 ERA over two complete game starts with one walk and 10 strikeouts over 14 innings. On April 16th, Brenner dominated Johnson & Wales with a five-hit shutout in the first game of their double-header while walking none and striking out five in a 5-0 win. He followed that performance up on April 20th against Springfield College with another win, allowing three earned runs while walking one and striking out five in a 4-3 victory.

During that week Brenner was also great at the plate, batting .313 with a double, a run, and three RBI in five games where the Judges went 2-3.

For the week ending on April 28th, Brenner continued his excellent play to finish the season with two more wins and a 0.00 ERA over 10 innings. He walked two and racked up 14 strikeouts while allowing just four hits. On April 25th, Brenner hurled three innings in relief, allowing two hits while walking none and striking out five of the 11 batters he faced to pick up the win in Brandeis' 5-2 victory over Gordon College. Then on April 28th he picked up another complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over Trinity (Conn.) in the first game of their double-header. Brenner allowed only two hits while walking two and striking out a career-high nine.

Brenner also continued his hot hitting over the course of that week's five games, tying for the team lead with a .375 batting average during that span. He tied for the team lead with three runs and two doubles while racking up a team-high four RBI as the Judges went 4-1 and are currently riding a four game winning streak.

In their 2-1 win over Salve Regina on April 26th, Brenner was 2-for-3 with both RBI including a perfectly executed squeeze play that brought home the game-winning run. He is currently second on the team with a .348 batting average, is tied for the team lead with seven doubles, and has a team-high 18 RBI for the year.

To complete his accolades over the past two weeks, Brenner was named to the d3baseball.com Team of the Week after his performance on the mound and at the plate.

Brenner is a 2010 graduate of St. Peter-Marian and 2011 graduate of Deerfield Academy. He is the son of Kerry and Jodi Brenner, Deerfield, Mass.
