BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped a pair of games in the middle of a four-game University Athletic Association set at NYU on Saturday. They fell, 12-2, in the opener and 8-1 in the second game.

GAME ONE – NYU 12, Brandeis 2 (8 innings)

In game one NYU scored six runs in the first two innings, with the big blow in the first a two run single by Adrian Spitz. Rookie starter Tim Lopez (Brooklyn, N.Y./East Side Community) got a pair of strikeouts and a grounder to third to prevent any further damage. In the second, a costly throwing error allowed two runs to score, giving the hosts a 6-0 lead.

The Judges looked poised to get back in the game in the top of the third. After a walk and a single by rookie 2B Victor Oppenheimer (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade), senior SS Jay Schaff (Cheshire, Conn./Xavier) singled home a run to get the Judges on the board. NYU starter Sal Cammisuli then issued two more free passes, with senior CF Ryan Tettemer (Westfield, Mass./Suffield Acad.) picking up the RBI. With the bases loaded and none out, the Violets went to the bullpen, and Matthew Wells induced a ground ball to third. The Violets stepped on the bag and fired home to cut down the run and escape further damage.

NYU went on to get the two runs back in the bottom of the third, then scored once in the sixth and three times in the eighth to end the game an inning early.

Oppenheimer led the Judges by going 2-4 with a run scored. Colman Hendershot was NYU's big hitter, going 4-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, a double and a triple.
