Nomakeo garners weekly honors after big finale

WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University senior Anthony Nomakeo of Westfield, Mass., has been named the May 8 University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week while also landing a spot on the final D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for 2017.

After going 1-3 and picking up one of the Judges' six hits in a loss to Amherst College on May 2, Nomakeo had a career performance the next day in his final collegiate game at UMass Dartmouth, a 10-4 Brandeis win.

Entering the game without a college home run and just three RBI on the season, Nomakeo delivered a three-run home run in the fifth inning, a two-run single in the sixth and a two-run homer in the eighth to finish his afternoon at the plate going 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI. He was the first Brandeis player since 2012 with two round-trippers in a game and just the fourth since 2005. No player since 2005 had driven in more than five runs in a contest.

Not content with his performance at the plate, Nomakeo moved from first base to the mound in the ninth inning and struck out two of the four hitters he faced.

Nomakeo is a 2013 graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon.
