ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brandeis University baseball team dropped a pair of University Athletic Association games on Saturday to the Emory Eagles, 10-4 and 5-2. The Judges drop to 2-18 (0-8 UAA), while Emory is now 17-15 (8-4 UAA).
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE (Emory 10, Brandeis 4)

Emory struck quickly in the bottom of the first, as Nick Chambers followed up a leadoff single and walk with a two-RBI triple to left-center. Bubby Terp brought Chambers home with an RBI single, making it 3-0 after one.

The Judges responded by scratching out a run in the top of the second. After the first two hitters of the inning walked, freshman Luke Hall (Georgetown, Mass. / Georgetown) walked, freshman Tommy Sand (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) singled to right-center, and freshman Scott Ziegler (Avon, Conn. / Avon Old Farms) reached first on a dropped third strike. Sophomore Donnie Weisse (Swampscott, Mass / St. Mary's) was then hit by a pitch, bringing home Hall.

Things were quiet for the next few innings, as neither team could score, and it was 3-1 after five.

The Eagles broke the game open in the fifth, scoring three runs to extend their lead to five. Ryan Adelman and Richard Brereton started things off with a pair of singles. Drew Bartholow drove in Adelman with an RBI double, and Brereton came home on a balk. Bartholow then scored on a foul sacrifice fly off the bat of Chambers.

Emory added two more runs in each of the next two innings, making it 10-1 after eight frames. Michael Edelman had a two-RBI single in the seventh, and Christopher Stern matched him with another two-RBI single in the eighth.

The Judges scored three runs in their final chance at-bat. Two came from freshman Mike Khoury's (East Bridgewater, Mass. / East Bridgewater) RBI single, and the other came via a double from sophomore Victor Oppenheimer (West Hills, Calif. / Chaminade).

Weisse fared best for Brandeis at the plate in game one, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Emory's James Robertson earned the win, pitching eight innings of three-hit ball, allowing one run and three walks while striking out ten. He is now 2-3 on the season. Brandeis sophomore Tim Lopez (Brooklyn, N.Y. / East Side Community) took the loss, falling to 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO (Emory 5, Brandeis 2)

Brandeis took advantage of its first offensive opportunity. After two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases in the first inning, freshman Isaac Fossas (Dudley, Mass. / Milton Academy) knocked one through the right side, bringing home Khoury. Classmate Alex Parrott (Nashua, N.H. / Nashua South) followed with an RBI groundout.

Emory immediately answered back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning. After loading the bases with two outs, Stern singled through the left side, bringing home a run. That was followed by a Jack Rubenstein hit-by-pitch, tying the game at two.

Rubenstein grabbed another RBI in the third, singling up the middle with two away to bring home Terp and give Emory a 3-2 lead.

The Eagles scored one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Brereton singled home Adelman. The next inning, Rubenstein picked up his third RBI, this one on a sacrifice fly to bring home Bartholow and extend the Emory lead to 5-2.

The Judges best chance to score came in the top of the eighth, when they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch, but they could not cash in.

It was a bullpen game on the mound for both teams, as both Brandeis and Emory used five pitchers.

For the Judges, senior Bradley Bousquet (Athol, Mass. / Athol) threw two shutout innings, while junior Daniel Schupper (Villanova, Pa. / Harriton) added one shutout frame. Freshman Mason Newman (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) went three innings, giving up one earned run and striking out two. Sophomore Logan Nesson (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) took the loss, and is 0-1.

For the Eagles, Christian Bradley got the win, improving to 3-1 on the year. He threw four shutout innings, allowing two hits and yielding two bases on balls. Charlie Redovian picked up his first collegiate save, throwing the final 1.1 innings and not allowing a run.

The Judges host their final home games of the year next weekend, playing NYU four times over three days. The first game starts at 3 PM on Friday, April 20.

Emory also returns to action next Friday, traveling to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Huntingdon College at 7 PM. The Eagles then host Huntingdon on Saturday and Sunday for their final home games of the season.
