Khoury named UAA Hitter of the Week, March 18

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore shortstop Mike Khoury of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, has been tabbed as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Hitter of the Week for the week ending March 17th.

Khoury led the Judges to a 5-2 record last week. He hit .364 (8-22) with 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. Khoury slammed four home runs in a span of three games and added a triple to produce a 1.000 slugging percentage, while drawing 11 walks and one hit-by-pitch for a .588 on-base percentage.

Khoury hit safely in five of the team's seven games, driving multiple runs five times and scoring a run in all seven contests, with at least two runs in five of the seven. Khoury drew at least one walk in six of the seven contests. In a doubleheader with Clark University on March 16, he homered twice in the opening game, driving in two of the team's three runs in a loss, then added a grand slam in the sixth inning of game two to put a 5-3 contest out of reach. In his next game, the first of a doubleheader against Wentworth on March 17, Khoury belted a two-run home run in the first inning to pace a Brandeis sweep of the Leopards.

Overall this season, Khoury is hitting .370 (10-27) with 13 walks, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored. He has a team-leading four home runs and is slugging .889 with a .585 on-base percentage. In the most recent NCAA Division III statistics, he ranks eighth in walks per game, 11th in home runs per game, 21st in runs scored per game, 26th in RBI per game and 28th in slugging percentage.

Overall as a team, the 702 Judges are leading Division III with a team .643 slugging percentage and 1.67 home runs per game, while ranking fifth in team batting average (.380), seventh in scoring (10.7 runs per game) and eighth in on-base percentage (.457).

Brandeis is scheduled to return to action this Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in their home opener against Suffolk University. Seven of their previous nine games have been played at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Khoury is a 2017 graduate of East Bridgewater High School.
