WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior catcher Luke Hall of Georgetown, Massachusetts, and graduate student second baseman Victor Oppenheimer of West Hills, California, have each been named second-team All-New England selections by the American Baseball Coaches Association and New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. Hall was also a second-team selection by D3Baseball.com.
Hall, who was previously recognized for the second year in a row as an All-University Athletic Association selection, was honored as All-New England for the first time. Hall tied for third on the team with a .362 batting average (17-47) and was second with 17 runs scored and three home runs. He drove in 14, fourth-most on the Judges, and turned in a .596 slugging percentage and .466 on-base percentage, both fifth-highest in the UAA. Hall reached base in all 15 games this season, registering hits in 12 of them. He had a pair of big-RBI games, driving in five in a 12-11 win over Johnson and Wales on April 10, including a grand slam, and four in a 22-1 win over Lasell on April 24. Hall also turned in a fine defensive campaign behind the plate, throwing out a league-high five would-be base-stealers out of 15 attempts.
Hall is a 2017 graduate of Georgetown High School.
Oppenheimer also earned All-New England honors for the first time. He is a two-time All-UAA choice at second base. This season, he led the UAA in batting average, hitting a career-best .459 (17-37) in 15 games. Oppenheimer also led the Judges and the UAA with a .543 on-base percentage. Batting in the sixth spot in the order, he hit safely in 11 of the team's 15 contests and reached base in 13 of 15. He scored 14 runs, tied for fifth on the team, and drove in four. With three doubles, he ended the season tied for ninth on Brandeis's career list with 33, while his 98 runs scored are 20th on the Judges' all-time list. Oppenheimer also turned in a terrific defensive season, making just two errors in 52 chances for a .962 fielding percentage. He is 12th on the career assists list with 245.
Oppenheimer is a 2016 graduate of Chaminade High School.
The Brandeis baseball team, in its sixth season under head coach Derek Carlson '91 finished the 2021 season with a 12-3 record. The Judges led the UAA in team batting average (.328), on-base percentage (.422), slugging percentage (.501) and runs per game (9.4), while finishing second in ERA (3.77) and third in fielding percentage (.953). Their slugging percentage rank 30th in Division III at the end of the regular season, while their scoring offense was 18th and their 2.40 doubles per game were 30th.
