WALTHAM, Mass. -- Pitcher Asher Kaplan '23 of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-District Baseballl team for the 2020-21 school year. Kaplan, who was honored for the first time in his career,  is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade-point average and be a significant contributor to their team.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Kaplan helped the Judges to a 12-3 record, going 3-1 in his four appearances. Kaplan made three starts and tossed one complete game and one shutout, a seven-inning three-hitter against Lasell University on April 7, a 2-0 Brandeis win that earned him University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week honors. Kaplan led the Judges with 22.2 innings pitched this season and was second with a 2.79 earned-run average and third with 19 strikeouts. As a rookie in 2020, Kaplan appeared in three games out of the bullpen and earned one save. 

Off the field, Kaplan posted a 3.59 grade point average as a double major in politics and international and global studies. He earned a spot on the Academic All-University Athletic Association team in his first year eligible. Kaplan is Brandeis's four CoSIDA Academic All-District selection this year.

Kaplan is a 2019 graduate of Boston Latin School.
