WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team closed out a four-game University Athletic Association series with Emory today, and the Eagles completed the series sweep with a 9-1 victory.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 5-17, 1-7 UAA.
- Emory: 20-10, 9-2 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A day after giving up a record amount of runs to the Eagles, Brandeis got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Senior SS Drew Michaud (Madison, Conn / Xavier) led off the bottom of the second with a deep home run to left field. The lead was Brandeis's first of the series while the homer was Michaud's third of the season and seventh of his career.
- Unfortunately, the Judges mustered just three more hits the rest of the way.
- After two scoreless innings by Brandeis, the Eagles broke through against Brandeis starter Christian Tejada (Providence, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) in the third. The visitors got all the scoring they would need in the second on a home run by Ellis Schwarz that made it 2-1. They added another run in the third on single by Matthew Sicoli to go up, 3-1.
- Emory added five more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, but Judge sophomore reliever James Murphy (Providence, R.I. / Moses Brown) kept the Eagles in check over the last three innings, allowing just one run on two hits.
- The Eagles were paced by Sicoli, who finished 4-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
- Emory's Jack Halloran, who had a big offensive day on Saturday, was limited to three singles in six plate appearances, scoring two runs.
- In addition to Michaud's home run, Brandeis got hits from senior Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif. / Palos Verde), sophomore Justin Keeler (Seymore, Conn. / St. Joseph's) and senior Griffin Bodow (Tempe, Ariz. / Tempe Prep).
- Derek Livingston pitched a perfect fifth inning to earn the win, while Tyler McLoughlin allowed just one hit with six strikeouts over three innings for his fifth save.
- Tejada took the loss and fell to 0-1.
UP NEXT
- Brandeis plays its next five games on the road, starting Tuesday at Amherst College at 3:30 p.m. before starting a four-game UAA set in St. Louis against Washington University.
