ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Brandeis University junior golfer Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz) earned his second-career All-University Athletic Association honor today with a fifth place finish at the UAA championships held at Locust Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
Sacks, who sat in a tie for 13th place after Day One of the tournament after shooting a round of 82, rallied to shave 10 strokes off his game on Day Two. His career-low round of 72 was one of only three rounds of par or better in the tournament and set a school-record for low round at the conference championships. Sacks' overall score of 154 (+10) tied his own school record for lowest two-round score at UAAs. He was one of three players to card an eagle on the par-five eight hole. By finishing fifth, Sacks earned first-team All-Association honors, after taking home second-team accolades as a rookie.
Finishing in second place for the Judges was sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma). Cusato also rallied on Day Two of the meet, improving by seven strokes, to turn in a score of 85-78-163 (+19) and finish in a tie for 16th place, moving up two places in the standings. Senior Lee Bloom (West Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) finished third for the Judges with identical scores of 86-86-172 (+28), tying him for 21st, while sophomore Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) shot 88-89-177 (+33) to come in 23rd.
As a team, Brandeis cut 16 strokes off their score from first round to the second, carding a team score of 341-325-666, the same aggregate score they turned in at the 2009 UAA championships.
