NORHT DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Brandeis golf team had a fine outing in their first tournament of the spring season, as the Judges tied for sixth at the UMass-Dartmouth Hampton Inn Invitational at Allendale Country Club. Brandeis tied with Nichols College, as the two squads shot identical scores of 338-321-659, five strokes behind host UMass-Dartmouth.
Leading the way for coach Bill Shipman's squad was junior Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz). Sacks finished in a tie with four others in 17th place with a score of 86-76-162 (+18). Sacks's round of 76 on day two was tied for the fifth-lowest on the day, while his 10-stroke improvement from the first day of action to the second gave him a 21-place improvement.
Senior captain Lee Bloom (W. Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) and sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) were just two strokes behind Sacks, shooting +20 to fall into a tie for 25th place. Bloom improved by two strokes on day two, shooting 83-81-164, while Cusato fell from a tie for 11th with his scores of 80-84. Sophomore Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) also had a fine improvement to finish as the team's fourth scorer, shaving nine strokes off his round to fire an 89-80-169, +25, tying for 38th place. Sophomore Kyle Mangan (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) was the team's final player with rounds of 95-89-184, +40 (82nd place).
