SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Junior Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz) and the Brandeis golf team each had their best finish of the 2009-10 season today, each taking third place at the Western New England College Invitational.
Sacks shot a three-over-par round of 75 to tie for third place, his first top-five finish of the season and fourth top 10. He was just three strokes behind winner Joe Young of Babson. Two other golfers cracked 80 on the day. Sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) placed eighth, three strokes behind Sacks with a six-over 78, his first top 10 of the season. Senior Lee Bloom (West Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) fired a seven-over 79 to take 13th. Sophomores Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Kyle Mangan (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) both shot 10-over 82 to tie for 30th.
With a team score of 314, the Judges placed third overall, eight strokes behind Babson College. This was the third third-place finish of the season for coach Bill Shipman's squad, but this was the largest field, 12 teams, in which they acheived top-three status.
