Golfers earn third at Worcester State in final match before UAAs

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Behind the continued stellar play of junior Charles Sacks (Phoenix, Ariz./Jess Schwartz), the Brandeis golf team had its fourth third-place finish of 2009-10 at today's Worcester State College Invitational. Playing a field of 16 teams, it marked the largest tournament in which the Judges have reached the top three this season.

Sacks, who has been Brandeis's top finisher in all four meets this spring, continued his fine play with a four-over-par 76 to finish in a tie for seventh out of 78 competitors. It marked his fifth top-10 finish of the 2009-10 and his 10th round in the 70s of the campaign. Sophomore Aaron Cusato (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) finished two strokes behind Sacks in a tie for 13th place with a six-over-par 78, his seventh round in the 70s this season.

Senior Lee Bloom (W. Hartford, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) was the team's third finisher with a round of 80 (+8), while sophomore Scott Beaulac (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) rounded out the scorers in a tie for 38th place with a round of 86 (+14), two strokes ahead of classmate Kyle Mangan (Westborough, Mass./Westborough).

The Judges wrap up the 2009-10 season next weekend at the University Athletic Association championships at the University of Rochester.
