BRANDEIS MEN FALL TO ROCHESTER, 76-67

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (taken from a UR press release) -- Seth Hauben (Newton, MA/Newton South) earned his 15th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds as the University of Rochester defeated visiting Brandeis, 76-67, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.


Gabe Perez (Corpus Christi, TX/Calallen) added 13 points and three assists. Brendan McAllister (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) chipped in 11 points. Jeff Juron (Niskayuna, NY/Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake) had a career high eight assists.


Rookie forward Steve DeLuca (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) led the Judges with 23 points, matching his career-high. Senior center Bryan Lambert (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) had 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Rookie guard Florian Rexhepi (Skopje, Macedonia) scored 10 points.


Rochester won its ninth straight game and 14th in the last 15. The Yellowjackets lead the University Athletic Association at 10-1 (19-3 overall). UR has a 2.5-game lead on Carnegie Mellon (7-3). Rochester has three games left, CMU has four games left on the road, including the Feb. 26 season finale at the Palestra.


Brandeis, which edged Carnegie Mellon on Friday night, is 5-6 in the UAA, 12-10 overall.

Hauben had 12 points and seven rebounds in the first half. Rochester hit 59% from the floor in the first 20 minutes and led, 40-24.


The lead was 17, 48-31, when Brandeis went on an extended 16-2 run over 5:43 to pull within three, 50-47, with 11:28 to go. Rexhepi scored six points in the spurt and DeLuca had five.


It was still three after another Lambert jumper. McAllister sank a three-point goal, then Hauben fed Perez for a layup and Perez added another layup after a steal. Rochester led, 59-49, with 8:05 left.


Brandeis did get it down to seven, 70-63, on Kwame Graves-Fulgham's (Amherst, MA/Tilton School) three-pointer with 2:01 left. Rochester sank six free throws in the last 48 seconds-- four by Tim Brackney (Columbia, MD/Archbishop Spalding)-- to seal it.
