WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second Sunday in a row, Brandeis University sophomore guard Steve DeLuca (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded a career-high with 28 points as the Judges scored 14 of the game's final 18 points to defeat Emory University, 77-70, in University Athletic Association (UAA) action today.

Brandeis (10-7, 3-4 UAA) fell behind, 66-63, with 6:20 left in the contest on a dunk by Emory (8-10, 1-6 UAA) junior forward Eric Barvin (Houston, Texas). DeLuca then scored the game's next six points, including the go-ahead free throws after Barvin picked up his fifth foul with 3:46 left in the contest. With Brandeis leading, 69-66, and less than a minute on the clock, sophomore guard Kwame Graves-Fulgham (Amherst, Mass.) converted a conventional three-point play that put the game out of reach.

Brandeis was paced by DeLuca's career-best 28 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the floor and nine-of-10 from the free-throw line. He also converted one of his two 3-point shots and had eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Three other Brandeis starters scored in double figures: Graves-Fulgham, who had 13 points on four-of-four shooting from the field and five-of-seven from the line; sophomore forward Joe Coppens (Rockland, Mass.), who hit all eight foul shots on the day; and sophomore guard Florian Rexhepi (Skopje, Macedonia), who has 11 points and a game-high five assists. Sophomore forward Stephen Hill (Brighton, Mass.) just missed making it all five starters in double figures with nine points and game-high nine rebounds. Brandeis shot 51 percent from the field for the game (23-45), including a scorching 58 percent in the second half (11-19). The Judges also outrebounded the visitors, 35-30.

Emory was led by Barvin's 24 points, 17 of which came in the second half. He hit 10-of-18 from the floor with a trifectas, and three-of-four from the line. Barvin also had five rebounds, two steals and block before fouling out. Two other Eagle players both scored 16 points, sophomore guard Spiros Ferderigos (Oldsmar, Fla.) and rookie forward Johnny Pinto (Phoenix, Ariz.). Both players also had a pair of 3-pointers and three rebounds. Junior guard Alex Ford-Carther (Evanston, Ill.) led EU with six rebounds and tied for team-high honors with four assists, matching junior Adrian Sosa (Pembroke Pines, Fla.).

Brandeis's next contest in a non-conference match-up with Amherst College on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., while Emory awaits the rematch between the two teams next Friday evening in Atlanta at 8:00 p.m.
