CHICAGO, Ill. -- Five players scored in double figures for the
Brandeis men's basketball team today, but it wasn't enough to
overcome a 22-point halftime deficit as the Judges fell at the
University of Chicago, 88-76, in University Athletic Association
action.
Brandeis (13-5, 3-4 UAA) dropped its second-straight conference
game and fell to 0-4 on the road in the league. After a tight first
eight minutes of the contest, the Judges trailed 16-11 with 11:27
left in the first half. Chicago (15-3, 6-1 UAA) answered with
back-to-back 3-pointers to go up by 11, and the Maroons continued
on a 15-6 run that put them up by 20, 37-17, 4:51 before the break.
UC opened up the lead to as many as 29 in the second half. The
Judges closed to within 12 with 4:16 remaining in the game, but
could never cut the gap any further.
Rookie Andre Roberson (Springfield, Mass.) led the parade of Judges
in double figures with 14 points off the bench, hitting six-of-10
from the floor. Classmate Kenny Small (Stratford, Conn.) added 13
points, going three-of-seven with two 3-pointers, and five-of-six
from the line. Junior Joe Coppens (Rockland, Mass.) reached double
figures for the second game in a row with 11 points, while
classmate Steve DeLuca (Merrimack, N.H.) and rookie Terrell Hollins
both contributed 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Chicago put four players in double figures, with senior Brandon
Woodhead recording a double-double with game-highs of 18 points and
10 assists. Junior Nate Hainje added 17 points and Jake Pancratz
connected for 15. Two Maroons tied for game-high honors with six
rebounds.
