WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore guard Kevin Olson (Rockport, Mass.) made the most of his first career start, registering career-highs with 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Brandeis University men's basketball team to an 87-57 win over Framingham State College. With the win, Brandeis matches the third-best start in school history, going 7-0 for the first time since 1976-77.

Brandeis (7-0) never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 21-5 lead less than eight minutes in. The Judges hit five-of-eight 3-pointers to start the game, while holding the visitors to two-for-15 overall from the floor. Brandeis was ahead by as many as 29 points in the first half, taking a 50-21 lead into the locker room thanks to 56 percent shooting (19-34) while holding the Rams to 26 percent (10-39).

Olson scored 13 points and grabbed all six rebounds in the first half. He finished shooting six-of-12 from the floor, including four-of-eight behind the arc. He also went two-of-three from the free-throw line. Olson, whose previous career high of 14 points came last February against Washington University, had more points in the first half than any FSC player scored in the entire game.

Two other players scored in double figures for the Judges, as rookie forward Terrell Hollins (Springfield, Mass.) tallied 11 points and classmate André Roberson (Springfield, Mass.) notched a career-high with 10 points. Sophomore forward Riko Bol, (Portland, Maine) also recorded a career-high with eight points. Junior forward Stephen Hill (Brighton, Mass.) led all players with seven rebounds off the bench.

Framingham State (6-2), which saw its five-game winning streak snapped, was paced by nine points each off the bench by sophomore guards Anthony Smith (Dorchester, Mass.) and Michael Tanglis (No. Andover, Mass.). Rookie guard Bill Carey (Abington, Mass.) and senior forward Derek Wigman (Pembroke, Mass.) each had six rebounds to lead the Rams.

Brandeis shot 50 percent from the floor for the game (32-64) as well as from 3-point range (9-18). The Judges won the rebounding battle, 44-37, and outscored FSC from the free-throw line, 14-2. Framingham State improved their shooting the second half, hitting 13-of-29 (45 percent), including eight-of-17 from downtown (47 percent).

Brandeis's next contest is Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. against Elms College, while Framingham State travels to St. Joseph's (Maine) College on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
