WALTHAM, Mass. – Three members of the Brandeis University men's basketball team have been named All-University Athletic Association for their performance in the 2013-14 season. Senior guard Gabriel Moton of St. Petersburg, was a second-team honoree, while classmates and backcourt mates Ben Bartoldus of Hillsborough, N.H., and Derek Retos of North Attleboro, Mass., were honorable mentions.

      Moton, who earned first-team All-UAA honors in 2013, is a transfer from Boston College. For the second year in a row, he led the Judges in scoring (15.7 points per game), rebounding (5.6 rpg) and assists (2.7 apg). Moton ranked seventh in the Association in scoring, 12^th in rebounding and tied for 10^th in assists. Moton led the team in scoring 11 times, in rebounding 10 times and in assists seven times. He scored in double figures in 20 of his 24 games played, reaching 20 points seven times and twice establishing a career-high with 32 points, on Nov. 19 in a 96-90 win over UMass Dartmouth and Jan. 26 in a 94-88 loss to Emory. Moton finished with 725 points, 270 rebounds and 161 assists in his two seasons in a Brandeis uniform. His career free-throw percentage (.821) and 3-point percentage (.391) both rank among Brandeis's top 10.

      Bartoldus was named All-UAA honorable mention for the second year in a row. He averaged a career-high 13.6 points per game overall, second-most on the team and 13^th in the UAA, and 13.4 ppg in the conference. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game and led the squad with 53.1 percent field goal shooting, fourth-best in the UAA. He was the team's leading scorer six times and top rebounder three times. Bartoldus had 17 games in double figures in scoring, reaching 20 or more three times, including a season-high 21 in a Feb. 14 95-82 loss to UAA champions Washington University and in his final game on March 2 against NYU, a 92-53 victory. For his career, Bartoldus started 98 of a possible 103 games, ranking fourth on Brandeis's career list. He became the program's 31^st 1,000-point scorer in that Feb. 14 loss to WashU and finished 26^th on the Judges' career scoring list with 1,051 points. He also finished 10^th with 118 career 3-pointers.

      Retos earned UAA postseason honors for the first time in his career. The sharpshooting guard averaged a career-best 11.4 points per game, 18^th in the UAA. He led the circuit in 3-point percentage at 45.3 percent, tying for second with 68 trifectas made. His 48 3-pointers in league play topped conference, while his 13.1 ppg was 14^th. He led the Judges in scoring in 11 different games, including the last four of the season. Retos had five performances with at least five 3-pointers in a game, including seven in each of his last two contests. Retos graduates holding two career records with 231 3-pointers and a .933 free-throw percentage (111-119), which the highest among active Division III players with 110 made free throws. He is also second at Brandeis with a .453 percentage from beyond the arc. Retos finished with 928 career points.

      This season, the 11^th under Brandeis head coach Brian Meehan, the Judges finished 13-12, 5-9 in the UAA, good for sixth place. Seven of the Judges' 12 losses were by six points or less, and they only lost four by double digits.
