Men fall to #14 Emory, 89-53

ATLANTA, Ga.  The Brandeis University men's basketball team suffered an 89-53 road loss at the hands of Emory University tonight. The Judges fall to 7-12 overall, 2-6 in the University Athletic Association. The 14th-ranked Eagles improve to 15-4, 5-3 UAA.

The Brandeis offense never clicked, as the Judges shot a season-low 29.8 percent from the floor (17-57). Meanwhile, Emory connected on just over half of their shots, 50.8 percent (33-65). The Eagles also shot 44 percent from 3-point range (11-25) compared to only 20.8 percent for Brandeis (5-24). Emory also outrebounded Brandeis, 43-33, and capitalized on the Judges' turnovers, converting 10 into 17 points while Brandeis got only four points off six Eagle miscues.

Brandeis got 13 points from rookie Jordan Cooper (Weston, Fla./Sagemont School), 11 coming in the first half. Classmate Carlin Haymon (Boston, Mass./Wilbraham and Monson Acad.) added 10 points off the bench. Haymon also had two assists. Rookie guard Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass./Phillips Andover) pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.

Emory had three players score in double figures, plus two more with nine points. Will Trawick led the way for the home team, registering a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Dague had 19 points off the bench to match Trawick, hitting 7-of-8 from the field and 5-of-5 from the line in just 21 minutes of action. Michael Florin added 10 points and six assists. Whit Rapp also had six helpers for Emory.

Brandeis returns to action on Sunday at noon at the University of Rochester. Emory hosts NYU at the same time.
