WALTHAM, Mass. – A 14-2 run late in the second half was enough to carry the visiting Bates College Bobcats past the host Brandeis University Judges, 73-66, in Red Auerbach Arena tonight. Brandeis falls to 3-5 headed into Saturday's University Athletic Association opener, while Bates improves to 8-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game featured nine ties and nine lead changes in total, but it was the last one that gave the visitors the win.
• Brandeis took a 53-52 lead on two free throws by senior Robinson Vilmont (Cambridge, Mass./Wilbraham and Monson Academy) at the 6:30 mark.
• Bates answered with the key run over the next 14-2 run over the next 5:15. The Bobcats took the lead for good on a Jerome Darling (Hartford, Conn./Classical Magnet) 3-pointer at the 5:02 mark, his sixth trifecta of the contest.
• Marcus Delpeche (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) added two free throws to make it a four-point game. Vilmont answered with a lay-up to get the Judges back within two, at 57-55.
• The Bobcats notched the next nine points of the game, including four from rookie Jeff Spellman (Boston, Mass./Beaver CDS) on driving layups, to put things away.

FOR THE JUDGES

• Vilmont led Brandeis with 17 points on 7-of-10 from the field, 1-of-3 from downtown and 2-of-2 from the line. He also had a game-high five assists.
• Brandeis also got double-digit scoring from juniors Carlin Haymon (Boston, Mass./Rivers School) and Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass./Phillips Andover), who had 11 and 10 points, respectively, as they combined to hit 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
• Senior Samuel Dowden (Andover, Mass./Andover) led the team with a season-high six rebounds, tying his career-high set during his sophomore season.

FOR THE BOBCATS

• Darling finished with a game- and career-high 20 points, all but the last two coming on 3-pointers. He connected on 6-of-13 from downtown.
• Spellman added 13 points off the bench, including 3-of-4 from long range, while Malcolm Delpeche (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) added 12 points.
• Marcus Delpeche led all players with nine rebounds and matched teammate Nick Gilpin for team-best honors with four assists. Twin brother Malcolm blocked three Brandeis shots.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Bobcats hit 14 3-pointers to eight for the Judges. Bates converted at a 43.8% clip, compared to 34.8% for Brandeis.
• The visitors also had a 35-26 edge on the glass.
• Brandeis won the turnover battle, 16-11, and the points off turnovers by the same margin.
• The win was Bates' third in a row in the series, but the Judges still lead the all-time series, 30-15.
