Cooper named 2nd Team All-UAA, Reale Co-Defensive Player

WALTHAM, Mass. — The Brandeis University men's basketball team had two honorees among the 2017 University Athletic Association postseason all-stars. Junior Jordan Cooper of Weston, Fla., was honored for the second year in a row, while senior Tim Reale of Mason, Ohio, was named the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Cooper, the 2015 UAA Rookie of the Year and a second-team selection last year, was the Judges' leading scorer this season. He averaged 16.3 points per game, third-best in the UAA. Cooper also led the conference in free-throw percentage, connecting on 86.1 percent from the line (86.1%), ranked 51st in Division III this season. He also finished second on the Judges in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and steals (1.2 spg). Cooper led the Judges in scoring 13 times this season and rebounding 12 times. He scored in double digits in 19 of Brandeis's 24 games and scored 20 or more points in a contest 10 times, including the squad's season-best performance, 28 points in a 67-59 UAA win over Emory on Feb. 3. Two days later, in a loss to Rochester, Cooper scored 19 points, including two free throws with 26.3 seconds left in regulation, to become Brandeis's 32nd career 1,000-point scorer and the 13th to do it in fewer than three seasons. Cooper will enter his senior season in 24th on the Judges' all-time list with 1083 points.

Reale averaged a career-high 10.4 points per game and finished with the 11th-highest single-season shooting percentage in school history at .571, but he was honored for his outstanding work on the other end of the floor. He finished with 4.1 rebounds per game and 21 steals – both career-bests while regularly guarding opponents' top scorers. "This is a great and well-deserved honor for Tim," said head coach Brian Meehan. "He took great pride in defending the top players on our schedule, year in and year out. This award validates the hard work and effort he put into his four-year career here at Brandeis."

For his career, Reale played in all 99 games over the past four seasons, starting all but three since the start of his sophomore year. He finished tied for 15th on the Judges' all-time games started list and tied for 16th in games played. He also ranked in the top 20 in career free-throws made (230) and attempted (370).

Reale shared the award with Washington University's Clinton Hooks.

Cooper is a 2014 graduate of Sagemont School.

Reale is a 2013 graduate of St. Andrew's School, R.I.
