Judges Drop a Heartbreaker to Becker in Home-Opener, 83-84

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Judges fall to Becker in a heartbreaker in their home-opener, 83-84. Brandeis is now 0-2 in the young season.

 

The Judges found themselves neck-in-neck early in the first half, trading points with the Hawks for the first 10 minutes. Halfway through the first, the Judges broke away from Becker, leading by as much as nine in the half. Brandeis headed into the locker room leading 42-36 at halftime. Brandeis held off the Hawks for most of the second half, only losing the lead once until the final two minutes of regulation. With Brandeis leading 80-71 with 3:55 to play, Becker went on a 13-0 run until the last second of the ball game. The Judges' effort was too little, too late, as Becker squeezed out an 84-83 win. 

 

Sophomore Eric D'Aguanno (Saunderstown, R.I./Saint Andrews) led the Judges with 24 points on 6-16 from the field. Each of his field goal attempts came from beyond the arc. D'Aguanno was also 6-7 from the line and corralled three rebounds, had two assists and a steal. Senior Latye Workman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) had 9 on 3-8 from the field with seven rebounds and a block. Senior Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass./Phillips Andover Academy) scored 13 on 5-9 from the field, nine points coming from beyond the arc.

 

Becker's Kareem Davis led all scorers with 26 points, playing all forty minutes. Davis also grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists. Samuel Durodola had 24 points on 8-13 from the field, bringing in four rebounds. DeWayne Thomas recorded a double-double with 16 points and twelve rebounds.

 

The Judges look to enter the win column when they travel down the street to Lasell College on Monday night at 7pm.
