WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's basketball team closed out its 2017-18 season in style today as the Judges led wire-to-wire in a 97-59 victory over rival New York University. The Judges close out their campaign with a record of 7-18, 3-11 in the University Athletic Association, while NYU finishes up at 10-14, 3-11 UAA.
The Judges' 97 points was their highest total of the season, as was their 57.4% shooting from the field (35-51). They also tied their season-high with 13 3-pointers, finishing just short of a season-best in 3-point percentage at 59.1% (13-22). Their 97 points was tied for the second-most Brandeis has scored in a game against NYU in series history, and the 38-point margin of victory was the Judges' second-largest.
Brandeis was paced by sophomore guard Eric D'Aguanno (Saunderstown, R.I./St. Andrews' School), who was one of five Judges to score in double figures. D'Aguanno had 20 points in 22 minutes off the bench. He hit 7-of-9 overall, 6-of-8 from downtown for his third 20-point performance of the season. His six trifectas were two shy of the school record.
Junior guard Corey Sherman (Penn Valley, Pa./Lower Merion) added 15 points off the bench on 6-of-8 total and 3-of-3 from downtown. He also had a game-high five assists, tying his season-best. Rookie forward Chandler Jones (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Commonwealth Academy) finished with 14 points, while senior Nate Meehan (Lowell, Mass./Phillips Andover) had 13 – thanks to 7-for-7 from the line – and rookie guard Lawrence Sabir (Providence, R.I./LaSalle Academy) had 11.
Senior Latye Workman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) led Brandeis with 11 rebounds, his eighth game in double figures this season. Brandeis outrebounded NYU, 41-26, including 10-6 on the offensive glass.
NYU put one player in double figures in scoring, senior Ross Udine, who had 14 points on 5-of-12 overall, 2-of-6 from downtown and 2-of-2 from the line. Ethan Feldman added nine points, four steals and two assists for the Violets. Dom Christiano had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. NYU was held to just 35.7% shooting for the game (20-56), including just 26.7% (8-30) in the first half, when they missed nine-of-10 3-pointers.
Before the game, Brandeis honored its two seniors, Nate Meehan and Latye Workman, who played in the final home games of their careers.
