Workman named All-UAA Honorable Mention

Latye Workman '18, All-UAA Honorable Mention

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Brandeis University men's basketball senior Latye Workman of Brooklyn, New York, has earned All-University Athletic Association honorable mention honors.

Workman, a forward, finished second on the Judges in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game, and led the squad in rebounding at 7.7 boards per game, finishing fifth in the conference. Workman also led the team with 31 steals and 25 blocked shots, ranking ninth and second in the league, respectively. His 16 blocked shots in UAA games were tops in the conference. Workman also finished the season shooting 79.5 percent from the free-throw line, good for fifth place in the UAA among qualifying players.

Workman led the Judges in rebounding 17 times in 25 games this season, including seven games with double-digit caroms. He set a career-high with 18 boards in a 75-62 win over Newbury College on December 7, the highest total by a Brandeis player since 2010. He scored 10 or more points in a game 12 times, including a career-high 17 twice, on January 8 against Amherst and on January 28 against Carnegie Mellon. Workman finished the season with three double-double performances. He also recorded at least one steal and one blocked shot in nine different games, including a fine defensive performance against Wesleyan University on December 9 in which he finished with 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

For his career, Workman finished with 374 points, 316 rebounds, 42 blocked shots and 54 steals in three seasons after missing his rookie campaign to injury. His 42 blocked shots rank 14th in school history.

With a young squad boasting just two seniors and one junior, the Brandeis men's basketball team finished with a 7-18 record this season.
