Chandler Jones '21, UAA Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Brandeis University junior Chandler Jones of Springfield, Massachusetts, has been named University Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 8.  He shares the honor with Matt Schner of Emory.

Jones, who was previously honored on November 18, helped the Judges to a 2-1 week. He opened the week with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals in an 84-81 overtime win at Lasell on Dec. 3. He scored 11 of his 22 points in the second half as the Judges erased a seven-point deficit with less than two minutes to play. At the New England Big Four Challenge on Dec. 7 and 8 at Salem State University, Jones tied his career-high with 25 points – including 21 in the second half – as the Judges erased a 13-point deficit before ultimately falling to Tufts, 68-61, in the opening round. He also grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the contest. In the consolation game against Salem State, Jones established new career-highs with 26 points and seven assists, while also grabbing seven rebounds. The Judges roared past the Vikings in the second half, as they shot 70 percent from the field (23-33) and 75 percent from 3-point range (15-20), en route to a 97-65 victory. For his efforts, Jones was named to the New England Big Four All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row.

For the season, Jones leads the Judges in scoring (16.4 points per game) and rebounding (7.7 rebounds per game). He ranks sixth and seventh in the UAA in the two categories, respectively. He is also second in the conference with 13 steals.

The 6-3 Judges are off until 2020, when they will meet Bowdoin College on the road on January 2. Their next home contest is January 7 against Bates College.

Jones is a 2017 graduate of Springfield Commonwealth Academy.
