Men fall at CWRU, 80-68

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University men's basketball team fell victim to some hot shooting today as the Judges dropped an 80-68 decision on the road at #24 Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association play. With the loss, the Judges fall to 10-8, 2-6 UAA. The Spartans improve to 17-4, 7-3 UAA.

The hosts shot 56.1% from the field (32-57) and 52.4% (11-21) from 3-point range en route to the win. Brandeis hit a respectable 49.1% (28-57) from the floor but were held to 28.6% from beyond the arc (6-21). CWRU also outrebounded the Judges, 36-22.

Brandeis was led by graduate student Tommy Eastman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lime), who scored 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting overall, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-3 from the line. Eastman also grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Sam Nassar (Milford, Conn. / Jonathan Law) added 10 points off the bench for his first career game scoring in double digits. Nassar hit 4-of-5, 2-of-3 from downtown. Graduate student Collin Sawyer (New London, Conn./New London) added nine points but was held without a 3-pointer for the first time this season and only the fourth time in his last two campaigns.

Case Western Reserve got a career game from Mitch Prendergast, who scored 28 points on the afternoon. He hit 10-of-16 overall, 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and 2-of-2 from the line. Cole Frilling added 16 points, while Brian Hines had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Griffin Kornaker dished out 10 assists, more than the entire Brandeis lineup. Ryan Newton added 13 points off the bench, the only Spartan reserve to see significant minutes.

Brandeis will step out of conference on Wednesday evening, February 16th, for a contest against Emmanuel College at 7 p.m.
