WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore Toby Harris of Durham, North Carolina, has earned first-team All-University Athletic Association honors for the Judges' men's basketball team.
"This is a great accomplishment for Toby individually, to be named one of the top players in one of the top leagues in the country in the UAA," said head coach Jean Bain. "I think Toby would tell you he couldn't have done it without his teammates, and they all played a part in this. He is only a sophomore, so I can't wait to see what he and all of his teammates have in store."
Harris led the UAA in scoring this season, averaging 19.2 points per game. He was second in the conference in minutes played (830) and third in minutes per game (33.2). Harris also led the conference in field goals (168) and 3-pointers made (73). He was fifth in 3-point percentage (44.0 percent), seventh in free-throw percentage (78.9%), and 10th in rebounding (6.2 rpg), including third in defensive rebounds (130).
Harris finished 15th among all Division III players in 3-point percentage, 24th in 3-pointers per game (2.92), and 29th in total 3-pointers. His scoring average was 60th among all Division III players. Harris's 480 points are tied for 15th-most in a single season by a Brandeis player and the highest total since 2002, while his 73 3-pointers are ranked sixth in school history. Harris is already 16th on the school's all-time 3-pointer list with 104.
Harris scored in double figures in all but one of his 25 games this season, exceeding 20 points 11 times and reaching a career-high 30 points in the team's season opener against Salem State University. Harris also had three games with double-digit rebounds, including 13 in a win over Bates, giving him three double-doubles. Harris was a three-time UAA Player of the Week.
The Brandeis men's basketball team finished with a 12-13 record, 4-10 in the UAA, in head coach Jean Bain's fourth season at the helm. The Judges got off to an 11-4 start but struggled after losing second-leading scorer Ethan Edwards of Brooklyn, New York, to injury. Brandeis returns four of their five starters next season, including five of their top six scorers and all of their top six rebounders.
Harris is a 2021 graduate of Durham Academy.
