Men's fencing drops four at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Brandeis men's fencing team dropped four matches today at the 2010 Duke Invitational, including a pair to nationally-ranked teams.

The Judges opened with a 16-11 loss to coach Bill Shipman's alma mater, the University of North Carolina. The saber and epee squads had the closest matches for the Judges against, UNC, dropping 5-4 decisions.

Next, the team had their closest match, falling to Air Force, 14-13. The foil squad carried the day with an 8-1 victory, but the epee lost by the same score. Unfortunately, the saberists suffered a 5-4 defeat in the closest contest of the match.

Brandeis concluded the day with two showdowns with nationally-ranked squads, falling to host and No. 10 Duke, 21-6, and ending the day with a 22-5 loss to top-ranked Penn State University.
