WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis fencing team saw both the men and women place second overall in their three-weapon competitions, but it was enough to give the Judges the overall six-weapon title at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference championships.

In the team squad competitions, the Judges won the men's sabre behind the talents of sophomore Alexander Holtmann (Bad Ueberkingen, Germany / Kaufmaennische Schule Geislingen), junior Charles Catino (Bellevue, Wash./Hillside) and rookie Lucas Lin (Plano, Texas/Plano West). Women's foil and women's sabre each took third place. The women's foil squad consisted of senior Renee Pite (Woodbridge, Conn. / Amity Regional), junior Hannah Mui (New Hope, Pa. / New Hope-Solebury) and sophomore Wendy Mao (Waltham, Mass./Villa Maria Academy). Women's sabre were sophomore Devon Brown (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle), junior Lupe Duran (San Antonio, Texas/Providence Catholic School) and first-year Jada Harrison (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho).

Individually, the Judges produced two champions and a pair of second-place finishes. Both titles came in the sabre, where Alexander Holtmann won the men's tournament and Jada Harrison took the women's. The runners-up were Chris Armstrong (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) in the men's epee, who knocked off the top seed from Sacred Heart, and men's foilist Trevor Filseth (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who missed out on the title by a single touch in the finals. Junior Ian Quin (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) also finished fifth in the men's foil, while Lucas Lin was fifth in men's sabre and Hannah Mui was fifth in women's foil.

The Judges are back in action next Sunday at the NCAA Regionals at Vassar College.
