Brandeis Fencing claims UAA Weekly honors

Lucas Lin and Jessica Morales, UAA Fencers of the Week, Dec. 1

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Brandeis University sophomore Lucas Lin of Plano, Texas, and rookie Jessica Morales of Wilmington, Massachusetts, have been named University Athletic Association Fencers of the Week for the week ending December 1.  

Lin earned his first career UAA Fencer of the Week honors after leading the men's sabre squad to a 3-2 record at the Brandeis Invitational on December 1. He went 6-5 overall, including a 3-0 record against Harvard that helped the squad to a 5-4 upset victory. Lin was also 2-0 against Cornell and 1-2 against Yale. The Brandeis men were 2-3 overall, posting wins over Cornell, 20-7, and Incarnate Word, 20-7, and losses against Harvard, 11-16, St. John's, 6-21, and Yale, 5-22. Overall this season, Lin has a 12-7 record for the Judges in dual meets.

Morales, who fences sabre for the Brandeis women, had a team-high seven wins on the afternoon, going 7-3. She went 3-0 against St. John's and 2-0 against Yale. Morales was 2-1 against Cornell and 0-2 against Harvard. The women's sabre squad was 2-3, with both wins coming by 7-2 scores, and just missed two more wins, falling to Harvard and Yale both by 4-5 scores. The Brandeis women were 1-4 as a team, defeating Incarnate Word, 18-9, but falling to St. John's, 11-16, Harvard, 8-19, Yale, 6-21, and Cornell, 5-22. This was her first dual-meet action of the season. Morales previously won UAA Fencer of the Week honors after taking gold at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Fall Invitational to open the season.

The Brandeis Fencing teams are back in action on January 19th, 2020, at the Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania.

Lin is a 2018 graduate of Plano West High School.

Morales is a 2019 graduate of Wilmington High School
