WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University senior Scott Zackaroff
(Bath, Ohio) scored with just over 12 minutes left in regulation
tonight as the Judges took a hard-fought tie with Babson College,
1-1, on Gordon Field.
In the nightcap of a doubleheader with the women's teams, Babson
(2-0-1) struck first in the 10th minute. Senior forward Derek Losi
(Weymouth, Mass.) headed home a cross from classmate Gregg Robinson
for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Brandeis (1-0-1) owned an 8-3 shooting advantage in the second
half, but they finally broke through in the 78th minute. Junior
midfielder Evan Duval (Wilbraham, Mass.) sent a corner kick to
sophomore sensation Ben Premo (Florence, Mass.), who flicked it to
the head of Zackaroff. Zackaroff converted the tally to snap
Babson's 257 minute scoreless streak. Neither team was able to get
much pressure in the overtime sessions, but Brandeis rookie
goalkeeper Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass.) made a fine save in
the 107th minute, tipping a shot by Beaver junior Garrett Bates
(Norwell, Mass.) over the crossbar.
Bracken made four saves in his second collegiate start, while
Babson junior Chris Necklas (Guilford, Conn.) had three stops for
the Beavers.
