Levitan selected to Academic All-District team

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis University senior Joe Levitan of Baltimore, Md., has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA men's soccer Academic All-District third team.

Levitan, a defender, is a four-year starter in the Brandeis backfield. This year, he has played in 17 of the team's 19 contests with 16 starts, anchoring six shutouts. For his career, Levitan has made 55 starts in 67 games with three assists. He has helped the Judges to 36 wins over the past four years, including an ECAC Division III New England title in 2006.

Levitan, a philosophy major with a 3.61 grade-point average, is a three-time member of the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic team and a multiple Dean's List member. Last summer, he traveled to Costa Rica to work on community service building projects and teaching soccer to children.

Overall this season, Brandeis owns an 8-8-3 record headed into their season finale against New York University on Nov. 3. Included in their wins was 2-0 victory over Lasell College on Oct. 23 that was the 400th career triumph of head coach Mike Coven. Coven is in his 35th season at Brandeis and is the 10th coach in Division III history to reach the 400-win plateau.

Levitan is a 2004 graduate of the Park School. He is the son of Ron Levitan and Claire Smealman, Baltimore, Md.
