Brandeis and Clark tie 1-1

WORCESTER, Mass. (taken from a Clark press release) - The Clark University men's soccer team battled Brandeis University to a 1-1 double overtime tie in a non-conference game played on Granger Field. It was Clark's (1-1-2) second draw in as many games. Brandeis moves to 1-1-2 on the season.

Junior Ben Premo (Florence, Mass.) struck first for Brandeis. After Alex Mithoefer's (Chappaqua, N.Y.) shot bounced off the crossbar, Premo, flanked on the right side, blasted the ball to the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. The goal was the 27th of Premo's career, moving him into seventh on the University's career goal-scoring list.

Clark knotted the score (1-1) with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. Senior Lino Goncalves (Newton, Mass.) took the ball from the backfield and dished off a pass to Marc Labbe (Waterville, Me.). Labbe's first attempt bounced off Judges keeper Taylor Braken (North Andover, Mass.), leaving an open net for the senior midfielder's third goal of the season.

The Cougars had a pair of solid chances to take the lead in the second frame, but Labbe's shot drifted wide-left and a behind-the-back tap from Jenner Alpern (Towson, Md.) jumped to the right of the post at 20:56.

In the first extra session, senior Evan Duval (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Corey Bradley (Holyoke, Mass.) had two point blank shots, respectively, that were stopped by Clark goalie Peter Wise (Providence, R.I.) to secure the draw.

Clark had its best chance to win in the second overtime. Junior Mike Trobagis (Acton, Mass.) was set up in front and his shot went just over the crossbar in the 105th minute.

Brandeis held a slim 16-12 edge in shots, while Clark topped the Judges in corner kicks, 12-7.

Wise turned aside six shots for Clark. Braken made one save for Brandeis.
