Brandeis, Endicott battle to 1-1 draw in men's soccer opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University and Endicott College men's soccer teams each scored a first-half goal and made it stand up as the Judges and Gulls battled to a 1-1 draw on Gordon Field today. It was the season opener for both teams.

Brandeis (0-0-1) opened the scoring early in the seventh minute. Junior forward Ben Premo (Florence, Mass.) took a feed from junior Alex Mithoefer (Chappaqua, N.Y.), turned and fired the ball into the net. It was the 27th goal of Premo's career, moving him into ninth on the University's all-time goal-scoring list. His 68 career points are 12th all-time.

Endicott (0-0-1) evened the score in the 40th minute. Senior forward Pranam Lipinsky (Adams, Mass.) out a corner on the head of classmate Eric Booth (Belchertown, Mass.), who knocked it past Brandeis sophomore keeper Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass.).

Brandeis had the better of the play for the remainder of regulation, outshooting Endicott by a 21-8 margin in the first 90 minutes. Gull junior netminder Scott Emmons (Wethersfield, Conn.) was up to the task, making seven saves, including a fine stop of Brandeis sophomore Corey Bradley (Holyoke, Mass.) in the late going. Bracken finished with four saves for the Judges, including the only stop in overtime, when he denied another EC corner kick attempt in the 105th minute.

Brandeis next takes on Babson on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., while Endicott is at Salem State at 7:30 p.m. the same day.
