BOSTON, Mass. -- The Brandeis men's soccer team suffered its
first loss in six games dating back to last season tonight as host
Wentworth Institute of Technology scored twice in the final 20
minutes of the game to take a 3-1 decision.
Wentworth (2-1-0) got on the board quickly in the first half, as
senior Chris Hartman (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored his third
goal of the season after intercepting a failed clearing
attempt.
Brandeis (1-1-1) outshot the Leopards, 9-5, in the first half, but
were unable to get the equalizer before the intermission. The
Judges finally broke through in the 67th minute when sophomore
reserve midfielder Mike Silberstein (Shrewsbury, N.J.) connect for
his second collegiate goal, burying a loose ball in front of the
WIT net.
Wentworth notched the game-winner just over seven minutes later.
Rookie Dario Correia (Lakeville, Mass.) sent a ball across the goal
mouth to classmate Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.), who deposited his
first collegiate goal in the left side of the net. The Leopards
added an insurance goal with 43 seconds left in regulation, as
junior Matt Martins (Bristol, R.I.) took advantage of a pushed up
Brandeis defense to score into an empty net.
Junior Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass.) made five saves in the
losing effort for the Judges, while senior Joe Simon (Pittsfield,
Mass.) had seven stops to earn the victory. Brandeis outshot WIT,
18-12, but the shots on goal were even at eight.
