NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Brandeis University men's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale today, falling to University Athletic Association rival NYU, 2-0, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale. With the loss, the Judges finish the campaign at 8-9-2, 0-5-2 in the UAA, and will not qualify for the postseason. NYU gets its first league win and ends its year at 6-9-3, 1-6 UAA.
NYU pressured the Judges from the start, outshooting Brandeis by a 13-1 margin in the first half. The Violets broke through against Brandeis sophomore Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass.) in the 18th minute when Brandon Hintz went to the end-line and fed Branden Neal. Neal converted for his eighth goal of the season.
The Judges picked up the pressure in the second half, getting off six of the first nine shots, but they were unable to get an equalizer. The hosts had a goal called back in the 69th minute on an offsides, but broke through with a late insurance goal. Hintz picked up his second assist of the game in the 81st minute on a goal by Badr Beevart that iced the contest.
Lynch finished the contest with seven saves, while NYU netminder Marek Urbanski earned the shutout with five stops. The Violets outshot Brandeis, 22-9, for the game.
