Lynch named UAA Defensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis University junior Matt Lynch of Weymouth, Mass., has been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) men's soccer defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 2.

Lynch, a goalkeeper, did not pick up a win, but still had two of his best showings of the season against two of the top teams in the UAA. On Oct. 30, Lynch kept the Judges in the contest with five saves against Washington University. Brandeis suffered a 1-0 loss to the Bears, who scored the game's only goal in the 13th minute on a penalty kick.

Two days later, on Nov. 1, Lynch made a career-high 11 saves, as Brandeis earned a 0-0 draw with the University of Chicago. With the Maroons able to take a share of the Association lead with a win, Lynch made four saves in overtime, including three after the Judges were sent a man down five minutes into the extra session. The shutout was his third of the season and second in UAA play.

Overall this season, Lynch has started all 17 games and played all but 45 minutes for the Judges, who own a record of 6-9-2, 1-4-1 in the UAA. He has a 1.53 goals-against average and leads the conference with 77 saves and 4.53 saves per game.

Lynch is a 2008 graduate of Weymouth High School.
