Five from men's soccer honored by UAA

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University men's soccer juniors Ari Silver of Princeton, N.J., and Theo Terris of Concord, Mass., have earned second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors. The UAA also recognized seniors Taylor Bracken of No. Andover, Mass., and Kyle Gross of Medway, Mass., and junior Luke Teece of Tucson, Ariz., as honorable mentions.

Silver, a defender and three-year starter at central back, was an All-UAA honorable mention in 2009. He anchors a Brandeis defense that produced 10 shutouts and only allowed more than two goals in a game twice.

Terris, a central midfielder, is a transfer from Boston University. He finished the campaign with five assists, but was the Judges' catalyst in starting their attack, winning fifty-fifty balls with great frequency.

Bracken, the Judges' starting goalkeeper, also earned All-UAA honorable mention as a rookie. After missing much of the previous two season due to injury and illness, he bounced back to have a fine senior campaign. Bracken finished the season with a 0.97 goals-against average, 78 saves and five shutouts to rank second in the UAA in saves, third in shutouts. Bracken was recently named Most Valuable Player of the 2010 ECAC Division III New England tournament.

Gross, a midfielder and back, was the Judges' captain this season. He had two assists on the season, including one in Brandeis's ECAC championship match win over Western New England College. After suffering a concussion and missing much of the early part of the season, Gross was one of Brandeis's most consistent players by the end of the campaign.

Teece, a forward, missed half of the UAA season due to injury, but still scored three goals in conference action, tying him for the league lead. Overall this year, Teece was the Judges' leading scorer in the regular season, when he finished with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. Teece scored goals in nine of the 15 games he played in, including the game-winner over a nationally-ranked Rochester squad in conference action.

Overall this season, in head coach Mike Coven's 38th year at the helm, Brandeis finished with a record of 12-7-1, 1-5-1 in the UAA. After going 9-7-1 in the regular season, the Judges were the fourth seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England championship tournament. The Judges won all three games to claim their third-ever ECAC crown, along with titles in 1994 and 2006. Brandeis, which lost only one game all season by more than one goal, defeated Albertus Magnus College, 5-0, Bridgewater State College, 3-0, and Western New England College, 4-2, en route to the ECAC title.
